Star Elf

“Once they were as they Stars, now they are little more than Dust.”

The first elves, the Linurel, witnessed the coming of all others. To them, even the oldest of civilizations are but children, and the stars but old friends. In contrast to all others, the Linurel posses skin as black as night, and hair as white as the deepest snow. Their eyes are often gray or blue, but glow in the night, two stars peering across the vastness of time. Their love of magic knows no bounds, as they were the ones that discovered how to channel the mystical energy that was a gift from Sol Linaru.

The Linurel were the most mysterious of all the Elves, often confounding even the oldest and wisest. Before the Long Dark they made their homes in glorious cities at the summits of mountains, allowing them to look out across great distances. After that fateful night, however, the fortunes of this mystical race changed.

The disease in magic affected the Linurel more than any other race; the fabulous cities that they dwelt in relied heavily on magic to keep their magnificent structures standing. Once magic began to fail, so did their homes. Within a year every mountain top Linurel settlement in Marai was in ruins and the once proud and mysterious race found themselves in the unlikely role of homeless vagabonds, forced to live with other, lesser races. Indeed it is not uncommon now to see Linurel begging on the streets in many urban areas.

Another negative effect that the Long Dark had on the Star Elves was mental; since their very being was so deeply ingrained with magic, the disease took a terrible toll on their sanity. Paranoia, schizophrenia and other ailments are common now amongst the Linurel with many experiencing some sort of mental disorder.

Perhaps because of their previously standoffish nature, the other races tend to treat “Dust Elves” as second-class citizens, a cautionary tale of how the mighty can fall. Racial discrimination and violence is now a daily concern for members of this once proud race.
