Akra's Journal 2

Excerpts from Akra’s journal of beliefs and philosophies of life:

…Embrace the richness of your heritage while releasing its prejudices…

…There comes a time when the past is just the past and needs to be left there…

…One’s station in life should be measured by deed and not the force of their voice…

…Each element in nature has its purpose and their power is equal in the full scope of life…

…Fight in every way possible to heed the calling of your soul…

…We are all eternal students of life so do not let a single class dictate its direction…

…Price and arrogance can kill just as easy as any other weapons…

…Drink deeply from the waters of life and live it to the fullest…

…Focus on developing inner strength as well as outer…

…Do not expect the Gods to do for you what you can do for yourself…

…Any star is attainable if your desire to reach it is strong enough…

…Anyone who only relies on the power of their breath should keep their mouth closed…

…Leaders who do not use their position for the betterment of all their people do not truly lead…

…Slavery by any other name is still just as evil and should be opposed…

…Fighting for one’s people should be unconditional and equal to all…

Excerpts from Akra’s tenets of combat:

…Strike first. Strike true. Strike hard…

…Focus your wrath completely on your victim before moving on to another…

…Righteous vengeance will steady your hand and focus your eye…

…Use your fury in the heat of battle but do not let it consume you…

…Success is measured by both the quantity and quality of the dead at your feet…

…Do not waste mercy on those who would squander it…

…Avenge those who have passed but be just as mindful to protect the living…

…To kill the hydra your must sever one head at a time…

…Be aware of your surroundings and keep your wits at all times…

…Know your target as the predator knows its prey…

…Honor and valor are states of mind harder and sharper than steel…

…Use all your gifts to separate your prey from the herd…

…Keep your mind on the battle and a prayer in your heart…

…Give yourself fully to the fight and let your strength of arms protect you…

…Kill your opponent quickly and do not linger in the moment…

…Today is a good day to die but a better one for your enemy…

The Final Night

19 Helian 401 NC

Akra returns to the room a short time later. He informs you both that the arrangements have been made to release the Dawn Elf in his charge early the next morning. Rations and any other travel provisions you need are being brought to the room as well.

He then says, “There are additional rooms available here for you to prepare and sleep for the night. I have informed the commander that we will be leaving about an hour before daybreak. There is also parchment and quills in the rooms should you need to write anything for your loved ones. We are undertaking a dark and dangerous task tomorrow. It is possible that we won’t all return. I will make sure anything you write will be sent to it’s destination with all due haste should we not return from our mission. That is all I will say on this matter. I bid you both a good evening.” and then Akra turns to leave the room.

A Test of Faith

20 Helian 401 NC

It was a hard fight against powerful undead creatures in that long deserted temple. Some of us thought that it was foolish to take on this fight when so much was at stake on our quest. I am embarrased to say that was my exact thought when we entered the temple. I was impressed by the elf shaman’s pure faith. I have no doubt she would have gone into that hellish place with or without the rest of us. The ambassador has a great deal of faith as well. It was much like my own when I began my studies at the monestary. Absolute faith that my god would keep the blade true and see me through the day. I am not sure when I lost that part of myself but it has been many years.

I couldn’t help being impressed with the shaman’s skill and daring during the fight. The ambassador and I gave a good pounding to those evil monsters but that is expected of us. The shaman, however, kept her focus and her poise throughout the fight giving whatever was needed to the rest of us. I was very tempted to use my last vial of elixer during the fight to steady my self but something in my mind stopped me.

When it was all over the temple was cleansed on evil and it’s powerful relics were given to the elf for her bravery and faith. It was then that I found my own crisis of faith seemed to be gone. So much so, that I gave my last vial to the ambassador to help him during our quest, as I knew that I no longer needed its crutch.

And so it was that we fought a grand battle mere hours later. More undead were sent against us but the light our combined faith won the day. Even the great hulking form of the undead minataur didn’t bring fear into my heart. The faith of the ambassador, along with the shaman’s true gift of healing, helped to prevent his wounds from being mortal.

As a reward for my renewed faith in Valor she placed a fine sword with her holy symbol in my grasp. A more clear sign that I am once again on the true path I couldn’t have asked for. I know that with it I will help our mission to be a success and bring honor to my name.
